Have you ever considered that when a reader clicks on links while researching information on the Internet, that they are actually constructing their own “book”? Join this session with literacy expert, Dr. Julie Coiro, to learn about her research in online reading comprehension from a new literacies perspective. She will present her findings on how online reading comprehension is different from offline reading and share strategies for librarians to help children and teens develop new skills to be effective online readers. Participants will come away with a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities of online reading comprehension and insights to help patrons comprehend online information more deeply.

This workshop is part of the Media Smart Libraries program which was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services Grant # LG-07-14-0045-14 and awarded to the URI Graduate School of Library and Information Studies.
